Why I’m Glad Barney Ended up with Patrice
When I first watched this week’s episode, I was slightly heartbroken at the end of the episode. There was Robin, standing there, ready to go and looking all gorgeous, only to get totally rejected for PATRICE of all people! But then I thought about it… wait a minute, Patrice is kinda awesome!
While my shipper heart bleeds for Barney and Robin, let’s take a moment to acknowledge how mistreated Patrice has been on this show. It’s always bugged me how awful Robin is to her. And why? Patrice has been nothing but kind and helpful to Robin. Earlier in the same episode, she had tried to help Robin with her printer. She was even going to let Robin move in with her at one point!
Yet time and again, Robin has shrieked at Patrice while she’s just trying to be nice. Sure, she may be a little overenthusiastic, but I’m guessing that’s only because she has never been one of the cool kids. She idolizes Robin and wants to be just like her. But what’s wrong with being Patrice? I think I’d rather be Patrice than Robin. *gasp*
I know, I sound crazy, but think about it. Robin spent the entire episode chasing Barney to laser tag and back. Patrice was just working late (probably because she had to pick up the slack for everyone else who was out at a bar looking for a hook-up). Robin was obsessed with sleeping with Barney for entirely selfish reasons. Patrice wasn’t looking for sex or even a date—she was just being kind.
Patrice is one of my favorite characters on the show. She’s always happy and willing to help; she’s just a nice person. How nice is Patrice? She was so nice that when Robin crashed her date wearing nothing but lingerie she offered to deal her in to the game. But how did Robin greet her? “NOBODY ASKED YOU HERE PATRICE!!!”
Cheers to the writers for this one. Also, for Barney not ditching the “chubster” for the “hottie.” I love how his character has evolved to such a point of maturity. I say, GO PATRICE! She deserves a hot date with a great guy. Hopefully this will be the kick in the butt Robin needs to get over her self-centered pattern of destruction.
